Terms of use

The French version prevails.

Shortit shortens links and measures their clicks. These terms say what is allowed, what is not, and what we do in case of abuse.

Last updated 21 Oct 2026

Purpose and acceptance

Shortit creates short links to web pages (http or https addresses), with click statistics and no IP address kept. The service is free and involves no purchase. By creating a link or an account, you accept these terms. Shortit is published by the person identified in the legal notice.

A link created without an account stays pending and does not redirect until an account has activated it; it is deleted after 24 hours without activation.

No payment is requested today. A Pro plan is announced as “coming soon”: if it opens, it will have its own terms of sale, shown before any purchase; these terms do not amount to accepting a payment. You can ask to be told when it opens, or to receive the newsletter, by giving your consent (never pre-ticked); every email contains a one-click unsubscribe link.

Account

You must be at least 15 to create an account; below that age, the consent of a holder of parental authority is required. Sign-up is done with a code sent to your email address, or with Google. You are responsible for the links created from your account and for keeping your sign-in credentials confidential. An account is limited to a number of links set by the publisher (1,000 by default). You can turn on two-factor authentication to protect your account better; for a high-traffic link, a code sent by email may be requested before the link is edited or deleted.

Prohibited uses

It is forbidden to create a link to phishing, malware, a scam, illegal content, or another link shortener (redirect chains), and to use the service to hide the real destination of a link for a deceptive purpose. Destinations are checked at creation, at modification and every day: blocklist, refusal of private addresses and of other shorteners. Links whose destination is flagged as dangerous are preceded by a warning page. The number of links that can be created is limited per hour and per day.

Content that links point to

Shortit stores the destination address you provide, but neither hosts nor controls the pages the links point to: they are the sole responsibility of their publishers and of the person who created the link. For these addresses, Shortit acts as a host: it does not carry out general monitoring, but acts promptly as soon as manifestly illegal content is reported to it.

Reporting illegal content

Anyone can report a link from the page Report abuse or by writing to abuse@shortit.fr, stating the short address, the reason why the content is illegal and, if they wish, their email address so they can be kept informed. These two channels are also Shortit’s point of contact for the authorities.

Deactivation, suspension and appeal

A report is examined by the administration, which may deactivate the link, suspend the account, or close the report. The owner of the link is notified by email of the decision and its reason; a link whose destination becomes dangerous is deactivated automatically, and its owner is notified in the same way. You can appeal a decision by writing to contact@shortit.fr: it is then reviewed again and you receive a reasoned reply. The right to bring the matter before the courts remains open.

Availability and liability

The service is provided free of charge, as is, with no guarantee of continuous availability: an interruption for maintenance or an incident is possible, and a link may stop working if it is deactivated under the conditions above. Shortit is not responsible for the content of destination pages or for how third parties use the links. Nothing in these terms removes the rights that the law gives you.

End of use

You can delete your account at any time from Settings: your links stop working and their statistics are erased. A link that has worked keeps its short address reserved, so that it is never reassigned to someone else. An account that breaches these terms may be suspended, under the conditions described above.

Changes to these terms

These terms may change; the date of the last update appears at the top of this page. Any significant change is notified by email to the address of each account, before it takes effect.

Governing law and disputes

These terms are governed by French law. In case of difficulty, please first write to contact@shortit.fr: we will look for an amicable solution. Failing that, the dispute falls within the jurisdiction of the competent courts under the applicable rules of procedure.
